This is just a quick glimpse at the area we'll be living in. It has plenty of trees, many of them inside the ruined buildings that are still an obvious part of the landscape.

Today, as if we were being treated to some meteorological April Fool, we woke to a fresh fall of snow. A trip up to the castle on top of the town was already planned so it was a good opportunity to grab the camera and capture the town looking moody. By early evening we had beautiful spring sunshine; we were out at the lakes by then and they were looking lovely. However the camera stayed in its bag, so this April 1st will go down on (video) record as a gray and snowy one.

Worst Store Ever!

Rowan would like to present the dubious award of “Worst Shop Ever” to the Merkur at the bottom of our street. Merkur may be Bosnia’s biggest domestic chain of mini- and super-markets but this example is truly a scourge on its name. I struggle to think of a redeeming feature of our local store. It rarely has what you’re looking for, and we would never think to shop there for anything other than life’s basics. The fruit and veg it displays were fresh once, long before they saw those shelves. At the other end of the scale the frozen produce looks like it actually experienced the ice age! The trigger for this odious honour came tonight as we purchased some cheese. A block of pre-packaged Gouda, tightly wrapped in bright yellow plastic. I should have been suspicious but its slightly squidgy feel but we were in a hurry. 10 things we learned in 10 years of adventure

As we write this it is less than a month to the ten year anniversary of us climbing into a Transit van to drive across Europe to start our adventure in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A lot has happened since then. So much we could write a book about it. We haven't written a book but we did push the boat out and make a booklet highlighting ten key things we've learned over the last decades.
